Tool Steels

HOT WORK

WHAT THEY ARE They are special alloys designed to maintain high hardness, mechanical strength, and toughness at high temperatures (450–600°C), resisting thermal fatigue, thermal shock, and wear. They are ideal for die-casting molds, hot punches and dies, rolling mill cylinders, hot shear blades, extrusion, and forging, thanks to alloying elements such as chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten.
Available via the following processes: Conventional or Remelting (ESR – VAR)

COLD WORK

WHAT THEY ARE They are high-alloy special steels designed for molds and tools that typically operate in environments with temperatures up to 200°C. They offer high hardness (52–63 HRC), excellent resistance to abrasive wear, good toughness, and compressive strength, making them ideal for blanking, molding, coining, drawing, and bending.
Due to their high carbon content and alloying elements such as chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium, they are highly effective in the production of punches, woodworking tools, drawing dies, machine tool collets, and pneumatic tools.
HIGHLIGHTS W.1.2080 (X210Cr12 or AISI D3)
W.1.2379 (X155CrMoV121 or AISI D2)
W.1.2842 (90MnCrV8)
W.1.2746 (45NiCrMoV16)
OTHER GRADES W.1.2510 (100MnCrW4)
STANDARD DIN 17350 – ISO 4957
HEAT TREATMENT Normally supplied in the annealed state.

PLASTIC MOLDS STEELS

WHAT THEY ARE They are special alloys made to withstand high pressures, heavy wear, and corrosion.
They offer excellent machinability, high polishability, good thermal conductivity, and dimensional stability during heat treatment cycles. They are mainly used in the production of molds and mold bases.
HIGHLIGHTS W.1.2311 (40CrMnMo7)
W.1.2312 (40CrMnMoS8-6)
OTHER GRADES W.1.2738 (40CrMnNiMo8)
W.1.2083 (X40Cr14)
STANDARD DIN 17350 – ISO 4957
HEAT TREATMENT Normally supplied in the quenched and tempered state.
X40Cr14 can be supplied quenched and tempered or annealed.

HIGH-SPEED

WHAT THEY ARE High-speed steels (known as High-Speed Steel or HSS) are a category of high-alloy tool steels containing elements such as tungsten (W), molybdenum (Mo), chromium (Cr), vanadium (V) and, in some cases, cobalt (Co) up to 8%.
They are designed for heavy-duty machining at high speeds; they are distinguished by their ability to balance hardness, toughness, and heat resistance. Ideal for creating cutting tools such as milling cutters, twist drills, knives, taps, broaches, and high-performance ceramic molds.
HIGHLIGHTS AISI M2 (S6-5-2 or W.1.3343)
AISI M35 (S6-5-2-5 or W.1.3243)
AISI M42 (S2-10-1-8 or W.1.3247)
